2016.11.11 Investors' Summit
The 7th Investors' Summit of Estonia was opened by the president of the AmCham Estonia, Mr Indrek Laul who made a charming intro to the event by thanking the sponsors #arvatoBertelsmann, #DanskeBankEesti, #ErnstAndYoungTallinn, Embassy of the United States of America in Estonia. The event's moderator, editor-in-chief of the Estonian World, Mr Silver Tambur got the floor to introduce the speakers of the day. Chairman of the board at Enterprise Estonia (#EAS), Hanno Tomberg in compliance with the event's topic, brought out the fact that behind every successful person is someone and behind the facade of male-led politics there are women in leading positions in Estonia. He brought out an example of Helen SIldna, bigwig of the #TallinnMusicWeek who once started off in a very male-led environment up until the point she figured she's much better, has the guts and challenge to create the biggest music event in Estonia. The adventure and challenge is the driving force for both women and men. Keynote presentation "The Business Case For Diversity" by Mr Gary Baker, formerly executive director of #EYSweden on climate change and and sustainability services pointed out that "DIVERSITY IS A PROCESS, NOT A PROJECT." Merle Liisu Lindma from Skype Estonia & Baltics gave a hands-on overview how Skype is managing diversity. The panel discussion: "Open Estonia - What Does It Take?" included: - Piret Potisepp, Estonian Chamber of Commerce - Pille Rõõm, arvato services Estonia - Marit Alaväli, #Ignite - Creating Reliable Software - Helen Sildna, Tallinn Music Week - Kathleen Naglee, International School of Estonia (ISE) - Andrus Soodla, #DanskeBankEesti The thoughts from the panel derive from Andrus Soodla: "As a bank we need to understand 3 things: 1) macro-economics - the environment where the company is situated, 2) micro-economics - the company itself, 3) the person - who they are and what do they actually aim for. Danske Bank is present in 15 different countries and it would be difficult to have the understanding unless you mix people within the organization. Moreover, we shouldn't forget that the more successful we are here, the more successful we are also in exporting." Comment from the participant, Maryna Hahlbrock from Mainor Ülemiste: "When I lived in Germany, then talking about different nationalities wasn't an issue. It's a normality. Here we talk about different nationalities as a diversity." Comment from participant, Martin Breuer from Pädaste Manor: "Following the world-famous Estonian slogan "Let's Do It", then lets just do it. Pädaste Manor has 35% foreign employees from 8 nationalities working in the hospitality service. And guess what: our Estonian employees enjoy the enriched working environment with new dynamics and perspectives." The event was concluded by Mrs Daria Sivovol from AmCham Estonia by bringing out the backbones of Investors' Summit concept: 1. Knowledge Exchange and Thought-Leadership 2. Inspiring Positive Change 3. Networking with Content No matter what topic or issue we address, these are are the e meeting.
