Interview with Hans Henrik Kjoelby,

CEO of Via Hansa Holding on Danish Week at Vihula

DECC: Why do you arrange the Danish week?

Hans Henrik Kjoelby: The initiative actually came from the municipality of Vordingborg in South Denmark. Last year the city opened a very innovative museum centred around an old medieval castle from the time when the Danes were masters in a least of part of present-day Estonia. As a part of finding inspiration for the museum the municipality visited Estonia in 2014. I went down to see the museum this spring and they were very eager to deepen the contacts to Estonia. I realized that Vihula Manor with its roots in Danish medieval history could serve as an venue for a Danish Week focussed on  cuisine, culture and commerce. Later when discussing the idea with the management of Unique Hotels and Vihula Manor we found a way to bring the idea into a Nordic context so the Danish Week this year hopefully will be followed in the years to come by similar weeks of the other Nordic countries, which all has a very close relation with Estonia.

DECC: What will happen during this week?

Hans Henrik Kjoelby: We start the show already 17.10 with a sales exhibition of renown Danish painter and sculptor, Søren Kent. The week itself starts 06.11 and one of the best chefs in Denmark, Jesper Brinkløv, is taking over the kitchen at Vihula Manor and presents new Nordic Cuisine. On 06.11 we host a gala dinner and the Danish Ambassador to Estonia, Søren Kelstrup, has been kind enough to agree to attend and open the Danish Week. On the 07.11 we open a Danish House where the DECC  and Estonian- Danish companies has been invited to exhibit the activities and production. There will be a seminar about  Estonian and Danish relations and in the evening we invite for a traditional Mortens Aften dinner. The week runs through 15.11 and during the whole period there are organized various activities.

DECC: Who should participate?

Hans Henrik Kjoelby: We hope that many Estonians and ex-pats from the Nordic countries interested in Danish cuisine, culture and commerce and in creating tighter relations between the Nordic countries and Estonia will visit Vihula Manor in the period 06.11-15.11 to taste the delicious food, admire the art exhibition, visit the Danish house, attend concerts and other activities taking place during this period.
