Chairman's Corner

Dear Members and Friends of our Chamber,

First I would like to thank You all who participated in the AGM! We are very proud to present you our new-elected council: Peter Thomsen (Chairman), Marco Iovino (Vice Chairman), Filip Rasmussen, Terje Henriksen, Veikko Toomere, Roland Vent, Kaire Luuk, Thomas Hviid, Christian Kaae and Maris Kivistik. On DECCs behalf, we say a big thanks to Rene Møller who decided to stand down, after serving DECC council many years.

After the AGM, we had two exciting speeches: the first one with Andrus Soodla about his personal experience with handling of his team during the crisis of the Danske Bank. Next we had the pleasure to hear Birgita Bonde Hansen, nominee of the Estonian Cultural Endowment Award, who has translated several Estonian books into Danish. Personally, I discovered several translated books from the best Estonian writers that I want to read.

We had an interesting program set for the spring of 2020, but it has all changed within a short time. For now, we have put all planned events on hold until further notice, and we will keep you updated as the situation progresses.

It is a time of emergency, on all levels. From stress in the everyday life with family and job, and as business leaders/owners. The situation is uncertain and nobody knows what will happen in the near future. This is the time to be smart and follow the government's decisions closely, listen to the given advices and orders - not only for your own sake, but for the entire society.

What to do now, is the big question that everybody has, and only limited answers. I suggest to do what you can to keep your business going within the guidelines given and work smarter using all the possibilities that E-Estonia gives you. And, even it might seems mission impossible, it is now the time to plan for the next step after the crisis is over. Plan for how to increase the production/sales again, which customers/suppliers have the priority, keep them close and well informed. What about the people who you need to send home? Keep them well-informed about the company's plan - and be honest, so they know how to act and can make their own plans.

But must important, keep yourself safe and healthy and away from the virus - for your own sake, and the sake of your family! Stay home as much as possible, spend time with your closest people - read the books that you have promised yourself for the last 3 years, see the movies together that you normally don't have time for etc. And remember to enjoy life despite all the hardships that are out there at the moment.

We promise we will keep you updated, and we will share all information that we get in close cooperation with the Danish Embassy. Check their homepage for further information. And if there is anything you think we might be able to help you, please contact us and we will do our best to support you.

Stay home, wash hands and keep a good social distance, until we meet again!

Best regards

Peter Thomsen
