Goddaw, tere, hello!

It is a big honour to greet you all - members and friends of the Danish-Estonian Chamber of Commerce.

I have many reasons to be thankful to Denmark and Danes. Already in 1992, right after Estonia restored its independency, I got the life-changing opportunity to study at the Bornholm Folk High School for 3 months. It was the beginning of my international career on the Scandinavian axis, interpreting among others for the Danish Queen and several Danish and Estonian ministers. I was a member of the Danish-Estonian Business Club since its foundation in 1996. I also worked at the Estonian Embassy in Copenhagen.

The Danish mentality and especially the humour was for me "love at first sight" and I quickly felt like at home among Danes. In order to get new cultural challenges, I decided to move to China. However, during my 10-years stay on the Asian continent, I couldn't escape Denmark - soon I found myself working for a Nordic Business School in Chengdu as well as for the Danish Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai. In between different and exciting jobs, I continued as a freelance translator and guide, while traveling all around China with Scandinavian tourist groups and delegations.

Building bridges between cultures has always been my passion. After collecting valuable experiences from the big world, I am truly happy to return to my roots and continue where my journey started – working as “interface” between Estonia and Denmark.

We have an exciting season ahead us! As you know already, DECC’s focus areas for the next 3 years are Trade between Estonia and Denmark, Management as well as Green and Sustainable Energy.

Moreover, we will strenghten the Scandinavian cooperation, by organizing monthly after-work networking Thursdays, study trips and other relevant events together with the Swedish and Norwegian chambers.

Our Annual General Meeting will be held on March 12 - please mark it in your calendar!

We are planning to establish a Danish Business Award - you will hear more about it soon.

Our popular Football Tournament will be held in May this year. Together with other chambers, we will also cooperate on other sports events - golf, tennis and perhaps even some more "exotic" kinds of sports.

And of course, we will arrange a row of business lectures and seminars, starting with a lecture about the highly sensitive and hot topic between our two countries - Danske Bank.

In the near future, our Council is planning to change the membership structure and prices, in order to make it more simple and clear, adjusting it to our members' profile. So if you were planning to become our member after the current price list, you have to hurry up.:-)

As a newcomer, I am very open to hear all kind of suggestions from you. Please do not hesitate to contact me or one of our dedicated board members, if you have any good, interesting and crazy ideas, what we could do together.

Looking forward to seeing you soon!

Anneli Vilu
